How I use AI

Noted writes about AI in higher education, so it should be open about its own use of AI. This page sets out what I use it for and what I don't.

What AI helps with

• Finding related literature and checking whether a claim has been made or tested elsewhere.
• Organising my reading notes into a structure before I write.
• Editing drafts for clarity and length, and checking references, dates and quotations against their sources.
• Cutting finished pieces down into short posts for LinkedIn and Instagram.

What stays mine

• The reading. I read every work I review myself, in full.
• The judgement. Arguments, evaluations and conclusions are mine, and I stand behind them.
• The final text. I review and approve every sentence before it is published.

The tools

I currently use Claude, made by Anthropic. I don't upload confidential, personal or institutional documents to AI tools, and I don't use them to generate quotations or references: every source cited on Noted has been checked against the original.

Each piece ends with a short line saying that AI assistance was used.
